The Bombay Quiz Club is proud to associate with The Hindu Group on Cerebration - The Hindu BusinessLine Quiz.

After successful runs in Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru, Cerebration will come to Mumbai on Saturday, 23 September. It will be a 2-member-team Business Quiz, with the 2 contestants necessarily being from the same educational institution or organisation.

There is no geographical restriction, so do feel free to come in from other locations as well. Ramada Plaza Palm Grove adjoins the picturesque (and of late immensely clean) Juhu Chowpatty, and a weekend there could be an added attraction.

This year the Bombay Quiz Club will be hosting 6 quizzes (4 "normal" and 2 "written") open to all on 6th and 7th of February 2016 (Sat. and Sun.)

The "normal" quizzes are for teams of 3 and the "written" ones for teams of two.

The venue like last year will be the amazing Hall of Harmony at the Nehru Centre in Worli, Mumbai. Like always, the prize money will be bigger and better than ever. (This is true....we follow the 7th Pay Commission rulings)

May fever

After a very successful Mumbai Quiz Festival in February and with the Mumbai edition of the Landmark Quiz happening on May 1, a Friday, the Bombay Quiz Club will be hosting May Fever - the Quiz Fest on Saturday and Sunday May 2 and 3.

The venue is the General Auditorium at the SIES College of Arts and Sciences in Sion, Mumbai.

There will be 4 full length open quizzes over the 2 days - The Printer's Devil (Literature and Books) Quiz, an AV quiz, A General Quiz and a Movies Quiz .

Entry fee is Rs. 150 per quiz per team. Entry is free for school/college teams (College teams are teams enrolled in a +2/4 year degree program and not professional courses)

QMs are as follows:

1. The Printer's Devil quiz - Sumant Srivathsan and Rajiv Rai

2. The AV quiz - Suvajit Chakraborty, Vinoo Sanjay, Vikram Joshi

All quizzes are for teams of three, have a prelims and a finals and are open to all.

Take a right and it's the next building, take the first gate and tell the sentry you've come for the quiz. From the north: If you get on to Linking Road at the airplane park end, you'll cross a HDFC Bank. A block later, you'll see a Kotak Bank on the corner - do not cross it. Take a left at that point and it's the building next to Kotak Bank.

Prez for emergency

As we get set for the Landmark and May Fever quizzes on the first weekend of May, BQC President Anannya Deb brings us some push-up material from his quizzing cornucopia. On Dada's menu this time is the quiz he conducted in Pune on behalf of the Boat Club Quiz Club, which he has agreed to re-run for those of us across the Expressway. For those of you who are yet to attend a Dada quiz, the range of subjects he straddles effortlessly is bound to leave you awestruck, and you will surely leave the quiz much enriched.

What this means:
If you win all the quizzes (unlikely but suppose you do) and you split the money equitably with your team mates, you can get Rs 12,600 over two days of quizzing.

Or take the other extreme. You make it to the final of all the four quizzes but you finish 4th. You get Rs 1,200. That will cover your Uber cab fare to and fro. Or a 30 ml shot of Johnny Walker at The Jewel of India across the corridor. Or 3 khambas of Old Monk from the nearest wine shop at Worli Naka. That's how awesome our quizzes are. Like the finest single malt or dark rum around.

Directions to the venue - 

The location of the Mumbai Quiz Festival is the auditorium in Hall of Harmony at the Nehru Science Center on Annie Besant Road in Worli, Mumbai.

-- If you're coming from Santacruz domestic airport directly, take a taxi to the venue in Worli. The Bandra-Worli sea link will cut your journey of about 35 mins by half (however, you will have to pay a toll of Rs 55)

-- From the outstation railway stations at Dadar, Bandra, Kurla or CST, take a taxi to the venue in Worli, Mumbai.

-- If you're taking the city trains, the closest station is Mahalaxmi on the Western Railway line. Take a cab from there to the venue in Worli, Mumbai.

In all cases, ONLY pay by meter - Bombaywallahs will not pay one buck more than needed. (Please note: Auto-rickshaws DO NOT operate in South Mumbai where the venue is)

MQF 2015

The annual Mumbai Quiz Festival is back on the 7th and 8th of February 2015 - with the venue remaining the same as last year; The Hall of Harmony at the Nehru Centre in Worli, Mumbai.

We have an awesome line-up of 6 quizzes over the 2 days with more than 1 lakh Rs. cash prizes (not "worth", no "vouchers) - actual cash.

The main 4 quizzes are:
Sports Quiz (Prelims + Final)
Entertainment Quiz (Prelims + Final)
Travel and Lifestyle Quiz (Prelims + Final)
General Quiz (Prelims + Final)

There are also 2 smaller written quizzes. More details on them will be shared in a week.

All quizzes are open to everyone. Team size is upto 3 members per team. Don't worry if you don't have a full team - do come, we'll find you people to partner with.
More details coming up. This is primarily to allow you and your quizzer friends to take advantage of any airline sales for that period..

Asean Quiz

The penultimate quiz of 2014 will be brought from overseas. The BQC will host the IR round of the Asean Quiz championship which was held last month in Manila. The Questions having been contributed by over 40 quizmasters across the world and collated by BQC veteran Rajiv Rai, It has world class written all over it. 90 top questions to keep you interested on an on an otherwise event-less Sunday.

The quiz was meant for teams of 4, but we will employ our usual BQC quizsaathi algorithm, so all you need to do is just show up. For all those planning to resolve to attend quizzes from 2015, take a little head start, there’s no better quiz than this one for it.

Sachin Deshpande

This Sunday, Sachin Deshpande will return to conduct a full-length quiz, following the excellent quiz he and Karthik hosted earlier this year. Given Sachin's tremendous performance at BQC quizzes so far, one can expect nothing less than an absolute treat. Also, since he is one of the quizmasters at the Mumbai Quiz Festival early next year, it may be a good idea to attend this quiz to deconstruct his style and push up for what it's worth.

Jagdeep Kannarath

This Sunday, Jagdeep Kannarath takes centrestage at the BQC, with what is decidedly not a Geography Quiz. The quiz, set in collaboration with Sundesh Shetty who has now departed for the US, is a General Quiz with the world map as a backdrop. Teams have to choose a region on the map on their turn, and the questions they get will pertain to that region.

Jagdeep has always been an innovator, and one hopes that the in-PPT scoring system he has developed will also debut at the BQC with what will be his own debut as quizmaster. Either way, this quiz will certainly be worth missing some business quiz final in South Mumbai for.

Persiflage

Books will be the flavour of the day on November 4th. Sumant Srivathsan will host Persiflage, the annual KQA Books quiz composed by himself and Thejaswi Udupa. Being held in Mumbai for the first time, it will be a treat for all book fans, like it is every year. Don't miss it.

Diwali Double

When a regular 2-day weekend has 1 quiz at Pinstorm, isn't it only natural that a 4-day weekend should have 2?

We start this Sunday with the Oasis Lone Wolf written quiz set by the English Language Activities Society of BITS Pilani - arguably the finest open quiz in the country set entirely by college students. Suvajit Chakraborty will be Proctor, and you will need to mail him with your name at chakrabortysuvajit@gmail.com should you want to participate, since he needs to get an idea of the number of photocopies of the questions to be made. Request you to mail him only if you are sure of attending, since absenteeism derails us from doing our bit to conserve the environment.

Once we cross the Oasis, deser...I mean, dessert will be served by Rajeev Chakravarthi. His short General Quiz will be the perfect way to top off the long weekend.

Kaushik Saha sports quiz

And right after the Mood Indigo Lone Wolf prelims, we have our regular Sunday session at Pinstorm. Kaushik Saha will re-run the India-themed Sports Quiz he and Titash Banerjea set for the India Quiz Festival organised during the Independence Day weekend in Kolkata.

For a change, therefore, the focus shall move from Narendra Modi to Narendra Hirwani and Syed Modi. Our quizmaster, however, shall be just as entertaining as ever, and if the reviews from Kolkata are any indication, folks in Mumbai are in for a treat.

VIkram Joshi + Souvik Basu

Vikram Joshi, arguably (and statistically too) the greatest written quizzer India has ever produced, now takes the quizmaster's chair with his own written quiz. This quiz was initially set for K-Circle in Hyderabad, and the plaudits received by the quiz there should be testimony to what's in store for us this Sunday.

Once Vikram gets done with World Quiz level stuff, it will be Souvik Basu's turn to bring us back to our country and our times. Souvik will re-run his India after Independence Quiz, originally set for the India Quiz Festival in Kolkata during the Independence Day weekend.

Literature Quiz

The Kala Ghoda Literature Quiz used to be a highlight of the BQC calender. But since the KGAF guys have moved on to more populist ventures, we have brought the Quiz indoors. With 2 veterans hosting it, it will be nothing short of exceptional. Even if Literature is not your thing, do come over as the Questions will appeal to the puritans and the general populace alike. Like co-QM Abhinav Dasgupta puts it,-  "there will be questions celebrating the fact that there is a little bit of Literature in everything, be it History, Geography, Science, Art, Entertainment, Food or even our favourite quizzing specialisation - Sports!"

MCBC Cup

We will have our MCBC Cup 2014 (Sports Quiz for Individuals ) on this Sunday on 04th May at Pinstorm (Santa Cruz West) at 11 am (not an usual 3 pm start).

The format of the quiz is as follows:

50 Questions spread out over 4 stages
Stage 1 "Qualifiers": 50 questions, written, open to all who land up and have a writing instrument with them; top 12 scores qualify for next stage, rest metamorphose into audience (or go off for lunch)
Stage 2 "Top 12": 40 questions, Written + IR, Bottom 4 drop out
Stage 3 "Top 8": 36 questions, IR + Lazy Pounce
Stage 4 "Voila Champs Elysee" : 24 questions, Mastermind format (specialised topics) + Pounce

Scores will carry forward to the next round. All questions carry 2 points. Part points will be at the discretion of the quiz master.

Prizes:

There are cash prizes for the top 4

Champion: Rs 750

Runner Up: Rs. 500

3rd & 4th place: Rs 250

Best Under-21 performer: Rs 250

- Subject to a minimum of 5 participants

Rajeev Chakravarthy will he hosting his much awaited (and delayed) quiz this Sunday at Pinstorm. Overseas quizzers who have seen the quiz have rated it very highly. No better way to warm up for Landmark Mumbai on May 1.

Quiz Announcement: MCBC Cup 2014 - May 4th 2014

After a successful inaugural edition which saw an international field with participants from Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Dubai, we announce the second edition of the MCBC Cup on the 4th of May 2014 at the usual BQC venue i,e. What it is:

For those who came in late, this is a sports quiz for individuals (solo participants). It is open to all people - age no bar, gender no bar, caste no bar, political affiliations no bar, Sachin trolls no bar.

This year, the quiz will include special dedications to four legends who have retired from the sport / suffered a tragedy / left this world recently. 

- Sachin Tendulkar, Clarence Seedorf, Michael Schumacher and Eusebio

Format:

It is a long and grueling event running through 4 rounds of quizzing. There are 150 questions in total split up into four rounds

Round 1: Written Prelims (50 questions)

Round 2: Top 12 (40 questions)

Round 3: Top 8 (36 questions)

Round 4: Top 4 (24 questions)

Scores will carry forward to the next round. All questions carry 2 points. Part points will be at the discretion of the quiz master.

Prizes:
