Our quizmaster for this Sunday comes from the imperial land of Hyderabad. Still, it would be unfair to call Alagar a “guest” quizmaster, as he carries the privilege of being a former BQC champion. While his old rivals at BQC will be itching to lock horns him once again, the newbies will be curious to experience being quizzed by this very respected quizzer (who also has a quizzing term named after him).

After Vikram Joshi hosting a Quiz at Hyderabad last month, such reciprocity is very healthy for the sport.

The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival Literature Quiz 2012

Anannya Deb, Sumant Srivathsan and Vibhendu Tewari, on behalf of the Bombay Quiz Club, cordially request your presence at the Literature Quiz conducted annually as part of the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival's Literature calendar. This year's edition is the fourth of its kind, and therefore, it will not have a name, and we will refer to ourselves by obscure symbols that Robert Langdon will spend his next novel appearance deciphering. Yes, Govind Grewal, this is a Led Zeppelin reference. And a Dan Brown reference too, but you won't hold that against us, I hope.

When: Saturday, 11 February 2012. We start at 5 PM, so please be there at least 15 minutes earlier.

Where: Bombay Natural History Society Auditorium, Hornbill House, Kala Ghoda. Here's the Google Maps listing, where you can find directions, bus routes and a strangely named location called Lion Gate.

The Rules:

• Teams of two. If you're flying solo, we'll play QuizSaathi.com. Stags will not be turned away. In fact, nobody will be turned away. Not even Salman Rushdie.
• Bring a pen and something to support a sheet of paper. There will be a written elimination round.
• The top six teams will qualify for the finals, wherein there will be blood. We don't mean the film based on Upton Sinclair's short story Oil!.
• We need help hiding the bodies once the winners have been identified, so please do stick around and watch the finals. Don't make us lock the doors.
• We're serious about the door-locking.

The Prizes:

• They exist. In cash. Just don't plan to finance your vacation. It will suffice, however, to buy the drinks when you win.
• There is also a second and a third prize. You can sponsor the soft drinks that people put into their drinks.
• If you're underage, ask your parents what to do with your loot. Ask them for books.

CEAT Open

The annually held CEAT open in Chennai lived up to its five-star standards this year too. So good was the show, that the organisers had to put the quiz on tour. Thus, for the benefit of those of us who were too lazy to make the trip to Chennai, the quiz will be making a trip to Mumbai. The master himself, Rajiv Rai, who was also one of the Quiz setters, will be the QM.

And if a great quiz is not enough, the QM will be giving out an MP3 player to the best quizzer on display.

Please note that we will slightly digress from our usual course, in order to accomodate another quiz being held in Mumbai on Sunday. The CEAT open will be held at our usual venue on Saturday, 4th February, at 10 am.

We’ve put the quizzes back !

After the longish break around New Year’s Eve, the quizzers will be back to their usual Sunday pastime. And one of the best of them kicks off the year.

Sumant Srivathsan is many things for the BQC; Factotum, promoter, representative and quite the disciplinarian. For those of you who haven’t been lucky enough to see him as a quizmaster, your chance is this Sunday. He has hinted at a lot of audio/visuals, to go with his masterly questions. Get your best answering skills along, for if it’s a BQC session, Sumant almost always has the last word.

Suchintan Chatterjee

This weekend will see the last quiz of 2011 being conducted.. Suchintan Chatterjee will be the Quizmaster. This will be his second quiz of the year and if it is anything close to what his first quiz was like, it will more than suffice for the three week gap, as we will be breaking for the Christmas and New Year weekends.

Quiz this weekend

Vikram and Anannya will be conducting a quiz this Sunday. Anannya will cover the History, Travel, Geography and Sports quotient and Vik will take care of the rest. These two have set wonderful quizzes for us in the past so this should be fun.

The tag team rolls on

One might get suspicious as to why Konga (Pradeep) and Atul always host their quizzes together. But we at BQC certainly dont, coz we totally luxuriate in the awesomeness they deliver. For those of you yet to experience it, come over on Sunday and see for yourself.
