A tight result in Arvind and Kartik's quiz

Arvind Krishnaswamy and Kartik Srivatsa conducted an excellent quiz at the Pinstorm office in Bandra last Sunday, which was decided on the last question. It was superbly tight until the end, and with one theme question to go, split up into three connects with four visuals each, two teams were tied on 13 points, with another team lurking behind on 12, and another on 11. There was a four-pointer bonanza at stake, and Sumant Srivathsan's team duly picked that up to catapult from third to first, with 16 points. Terrific excitement.

The results:

1st with 16 points
Sumanth Srivathsan
Amit Pandeya
Tanmay Sharma

Joint 2nd with 13 points

5th with 8 points

Enjoyment explodes at the Naveen Unni quiz

The BQC resumed quizzing after quite a while with a quiz by Naveen Unni, conducted at the Pinstorm office in Bandra, a venue generously provided by Pinstorm boss Mahesh Murthy. Twenty-five people turned up and got divided into six teams. The quiz was excellent, with most questions being eminently workoutable. Immense enjoyment was had, and Naveen was duly given joyous bumps later on, as is the tradition for our quizmasters.

AP Alagarsamy

And now for the league standings:

BQC Aggregate Points Table (as of February 4, 2007)

Amit Varma: 35.5 from 6 quizzes

AP Alagarsamy: 31 from 4

Ravi Venkatesh: 27 from 5

Vibhendu Tiwari: 24 from 4

Nandan Krishnaswamy: 22.5 from 5

Anand Sivasankar: 22 from 3

Rajiv Rai: 21 from 3
Sumant Srivathsan: 21 from 3

Arun Srinivas: 12 from 2
Shiju Thomas: 12 from 2*

Amit Pandeya: 10 from 1
Rohan Khanna: 10 from 1

Govind Grewal: 9 from 2

I haven't compiled the entire standings yet, but there are many people who attended a quiz or two and got points in the single figures. For how the points system works, see here (scroll to the last third of the post).

One thing to note is that when the season ends, we will not take aggregate points, but results from the top 60% of total quizzes. This season, we've had seven quizzes so far, so everyone's best four results count. By that reckoning, here's a virtual leadership chart, listing everyone with more than 20 points:

BQC Effective Leaderboard (as of February 4, 2007)

AP Alagarsamy: 31 from 4

Amit Varma: 29.5

Ravi Venkatesh: 25

Vibhendu Tiwari: 24

Anand Sivasankar: 22

Rajiv Rai: 21
Sumant Srivathsan: 21

Nandan Krishnaswamy: 20.5

Thus, the effective lead of the BQC standings deservedly shifted to AP Alagarsamy with today's quiz, and much fun will surely happen at the top of the table in coming weeks, when quizzing will be more regular. Joy.

*In the last league standings I'd listed Shiju as 10 from 1, but had missed out an earlier quiz where he was a finalist. I've added that to this list.

In case I've made any computing error while compiling the current league table, do let me know.
